Hello to all

How should i begin… Happy New Year! Happy Valentine’s Day!  What a Day! I guess you get the picture. I know it has been a while since i visited  my own blog :( Life Happens i guess.

My family and i have been doing great.  Our boys are faring well. Julian is almost  5 and Eli is right around the corner chasing 2. Oh how time has gone. It really went by in a blink of an eye.  Julian is doing very well in preschool. His writing has gotten so good, his reading has been amazing as well, and we are truly thankful.  He still loves school, and had a blast on valentine’s day at his school.

Eli, My Eli , has been a comic. He loves books,  and is convinced that when he is flipping through the pages and  saying ” doh dah car mmmh doh…” :) then you should definitely follow his story.  He enjoys when i read to him, right now is hooked on one fish two fish red fish …. By Dr Seuss.  He ruined every copy of his all time favorite- The Very Hungry caterpillar book we ever got him, for some reason he just couldn’t keep off chewing on  every copy of that book. I am now convinced he understood the story and wanted to be just like that tiny caterpillar. So when he wants that story i just recite it to him, and maybe one day we will get him another copy , but for now Santa needs to visit him, as mommy is  not wanting to buy it just yet. He also enjoys building  blocks  and of course playing rough with his big brother- he never lets go freely. He definitely gives his brother a run for his things, but they both couldn’t have any other way. I love watching them play together and as the days go by, you can just see how inseparable they are becoming. It warms my heart to see them chase after each other, and at the end of the day when i tuck them in to bed, with their tired little faces,  i get a warm bear hug and a Kiss – Just Priceless! It is an awesome feeling.

Got to go to bed, duty calls early.

So, i hope you and yours are fairing well. As for us we are looking forward to Spring, have a great night!

You gotta Love Maya–

I don’t know if I continue, even today, always liking myself. But what I learned to do many years ago was to forgive myself. It is very important for every human being to forgive herself or himself because if you live, you will make mistakes- it is inevitable. But once you do and you see the mistake, then you forgive yourself and say, ‘well, if I’d known better I’d have done better,’ that’s all. So you say to people who you think you may have injured, ‘I’m sorry,’ and then you say to yourself, ‘I’m sorry.’ If we all hold on to the mistake, we can’t see our own glory in the mirror because we have the mistake between our faces and the mirror; we can’t see what we’re capable of being. You can ask forgiveness of others, but in the end the real forgiveness is in one’s own self. I think that young men and women are so caught by the way they see themselves. Now mind you. When a larger society sees them as unattractive, as threats, as too black or too white or too poor or too fat or too thin or too sexual or too asexual, that’s rough. But you can overcome that. The real difficulty is to overcome how you think about yourself. If we don’t have that we never grow, we never learn, and sure as hell we should never teach.

Merry Christmas to all of you.  It has been quite an interesting year, so far and we are thankful for everything.  This is just a short post to wish you and yours a very lovely Christmas. Whatever your situation, we pray that you find a moment to remember the true meaning of this special day. God blessed us with his only son, Jesus who came to save us all from our sins , and everyday as we lead our lives, we can testify that it is through his grace that we truly are able to  get by.

I love you all.

God bless you!

The year is almost gone, and yeah…What a year! There were many great times, challenging moments, and growing pains, but that is life, right?. We live, we grow, we become better and better at what we do, and life goes on.  I look at my two munchkins and i tell you they remind  me  daily of how precious life is, really. When you look at life from little kids eyes, everything is grand. There is soo much to take in, and soo much to be grateful for, and personally, I am honored to be a part of it all. I thank God for life!

My little man Eli is now 16 months old. Happy as he can be. He has this soft, cute eyes and when he looks at me, i can’t help it but just smile and scoop him off his feet. I love tickling his belly and ooh man does he laugh. I love hearing those belly sounds coming out of him. He is my softy, very independent, and i am making sure he gets as much mommy time as possible.  He loves building blocks, and talking about blocks,  there was a whole bag of 80 pieces, but i can’t tell you where half of that bag is. I know i recover a lot of things from our trash can, today it was his brothers monkey PJs. Yesterday it was by hair brush, and who knows how many undiscovered items have made it to the dumpster :) cleaning house is what he does! He usually has this look on his face, this innocent, mischievous look,  and  oh does he love to run, he runs so fast  after getting himself in trouble.

Those footsteps…I could tell them even with my eyes shut. Big brother Julian has been good on warning his little brother of when he may get himself in trouble, and has been a good informer too. I hear mama soo many times that, even Julian doesn’t believe me when i say my name is Sophia. He actually said to me that’s silly, your name is mama…Well  we can only laugh it off :) It is great having them playing together now, and  i can’t wait till they can both have a conversation together.

Julian still loves school, and loved this week even more because he kept on getting treats from class…I am guessing leftover Halloween candy. We did not take them trick or treating, but instead we went to our Church’s family outing. They had treats, food, and horses. Both boys got to ride on a horse for the first time. They loved it so much, we  will definitely take them out on a horse ride again.

It is getting cold again, and as a reminder for adults and kids we all need to take our vitamins, and of  course stay warm.

I hope you all had a great summer and are enjoying fall ,  whatever is left of it…winter is knocking hard and oh boy not a fun at all!

Have a great Sunday, as for the Chiefs fans…How about them Chiefs this year!!!!Go Chiefs!!!

Long time —Still around !

When did we all get so grown up? Where did all that time go ? Now, my other question is when did my Julian get all grown up?

I can’t find my charger for my camera, so i can upload some recent photos of my boys, but i got to tell you this past 6 months did fly by and Julian now being 4 1/2 yrs old, i am seeing a whole lot new person/personality.

He has turned out to be the most loving, sweetest, stubborn, and smartest boy i have ever known.

This is the same boy that comes from school, and the first thing he wants to do is his homework, then will call me to tell me “ I love you so much mama “ and will continue to tell me how much fun he had in school or that he got in trouble in class.

Night story time has shifted in a different level. We count how many books or stories to read. Monday he gets one story and by Sunday he is usually jumping up and down as he knows it is more stories. Oh yeah, we don’t get to read to him anymore, he does the reading and only lets you finally read to him when he is almost dozing off.

He reads pretty good, and am just amazed and thankful that he enjoys it a whole lot.

He still adores his baby brother, and doesn’t like hearing him cry. When he falls down bumps his head or something Julian is the first one to jump on to his side and give him a hug and rub his head and blow some make it better kisses, and funny it always works for little Eli.

I enjoy their bond, just seeing them wrestle it out and still manage to love each other warms up my heart.

Eli wakes up in the morning now running like someone training for a marathon,  someone who was just waiting for the new day to begin. Nowadays i get only one kiss, and it is a rushed kiss from him… He figured out how to slide off the bed on his own, so he of course rushes off to wake up his big brother, and the neighbors dogs as well. Yeah…When Eli is up, so is the neighborhood. He manages to push and slams the doors soo loud, pull out the blocks, the toy trucks, the foam letters and anything that he can get his hands on, and of course all this while he is bubbling some foreign language. I think he speaks Chagga, or maybe Sukuma, or German who knows… but we somehow manage to understand exactly what he is saying.

If you have been around a one year old, or have a one year old…then you understand. Your friends and family members can be giving you the look like what the heck is your baby saying, and you would just walk up to him and just hand him whatever he was yapping around for minutes wanting, and he just happily walks away.

Anyway…

Life has been good. There are some challenging moments, as in any given family, but for the most part there have been  more good times.

I wish you a great week, may you overcome your challenges and make way for great moments.

Always

Sophia

In Sophia’s life..

It’s midnight, my husband and i just finished watching a movie. I replied to my emails and got to play with my baby sister on FB a bit. My 2 little men are sleeping, Eli will be waking up soon. He has been waking up between 1 and 2 AM and all he wants to do then is play…I know. That is when am ready to fall asleep.

Last night i went to sleep by  Julian’s bed since i don’t get to spend time with  him during the week due to school,  and i fell asleep. My husband was kind enough not to wake me up when Eli woke up. I can say that is one of the few nights i truly had a mommy full night sleep…Yes 4 hrs of uninterrupted sleep can be considered ‘plenty’ of sleep to a mom or a dad.:)

I  have been doing yoga at least 3 times a week and i love it. I love how i feel after practicing yoga. I feel stronger, more centered,  and definitely happier.  In yoga you truly get to focus on your inner self, and it is amazing how much  you can just let go.  So for some of you who can’t seem to just ever stop, always on the go, shuffling life, kids, work, people etc… being able to set a time in the middle of your chaos and just draw in- meditate, breath etc  can be truly good for you, and while you are at it – try yoga, i definitely would recommend it.

Well, i better go  catch up on  my Zs, i have to get the boys ready for church early in the morning.

Have a great week! Bonne nuit!

School is back!

Julian's 1st day day of school   Julian's 1st day day of school

So Julian is back to school. New class, new teacher and definitely new activities.

I took him to school Wednesday last week, and he was holding on to my thigh and his little hands a bit shaky.  I can only imagine what was going through his head. He was in a totally new classroom.

His teacher took his hand and led him to the school gym where all the other kids were dropped off.

I think i was more nervous than he was. I thought about him most of the day at work how he would do, was he going to get himself in trouble, was he going to get along with his new classmates etc.

Then of course i get a call from his dad later he had picked him up right on time at 3:30PM, and i could just hear Julian on the background, laughing and screaming. His dad hands him the phone to speak to me…

“Hi mama, how are you doing? Oh mama i had so much fun in Mrs Evans class. “  Needless to say, a chip was lifted right off my shoulder and my day officially begun right that moment.

You know, kids adjust much better to changes than adults do! I mean, we want to protect our children, keep them under our wings, hang on to them as much as possible, the truth is we just need to have a little faith, and just let them fly. They will be just fine.

I picked him up from school on Friday and talked his teacher and she had nothing but praise for him. All the reading, teaching at home , did really pay off. He brought home his first homework. Learning to write, tracing letters and numbers. He did that as soon as we got home and we put it away so we don’t forget to come to back to it over the weekend.

It is Monday again, and he is back to a new week. I hope he will have a good day at school and a great week.

So for all the parents that are getting ready for the back to school mode, here’s to you!

May you all find a little balance, and some peace of mind. Your little ones will do just great.

Have a great week!

Checking in …

Print

I know, I know…It has been a while since i last wrote. It has been crazy. Between work, home, kids, and just my ” taking time off ” i have not had the push to write anything.

I actually miss blogging.

So, The boys are doing great. Eli is up and running all over. He is beginning to be little Mr. Emotional. He doesn’t like it when you take away things from him.  He throws his mini feats. Julian just wrapped up summer pre-k of which he had a blast.

Last week they went to world’s of fun, the week before they went to a circus, they have been to movies, bowling, swimming etc . He tells me he enjoys Sunday school more, and can’t wait for Sunday to get here, and i can’t complain there.

So i got a list of his school supplies for Fall season and I can’t believe parents here have to get all that stuff! I mean , school isn’t cheap! We have to get his uniform as well :) It will be really cool seeing him all dressed up.  I guess all of it is for the greater good.

We still struggle to get Julian to eat,  and you would think as he grows he will be willing to try more and more foods, it is the exact opposite. Foods that he used to love, he isn’t touching.  He has been catching the school ” bugs ” as well.  He does well, M-W by Thursday or Friday he comes up with something it takes the entire weekend to recuperate and picks up something else the following week, and of course shares that with his baby brother, or the entire family.

Overall, we have been doing great.

Now, i better catch my Zs before little Eli wakes up again.

Have a great week!

My little man kisses…

Print

I get woken up by kisses from my little man Eli, every morning, and i tell you i look forward to that. He kisses my cheeks, i peek through one eye and i see him kissing his little palm, then placing that on my mouth, then of course i shut my eyes again, he leans forward and kiss me again and again, till i open my eyes and scoop him up and give him more kisses back.

He chuckles, and then laughs and off he goes, sliding down from our bed and runs out of the room screaming for his big brother.

So  half the night he is usually in his own bed, the remainder he is in our bed. Yeah, i know what people say about co-sleeping, it is funny, i think i was a little harder on Julian. That boy was in his own bed and room fulltime by God knows when. Eli we have let him get away with it. Maybe it is because i know he is the baby, and our final baby and am wanting to hold onto him for a while.

He has grown soo fast and he is wanting to be so independent. He wants to do everything by himself now, and i have to constantly remind myself to let him be. He is running, feeding himself, drinking, and i have to thank publishers for board books, because we sure have gone through many a books.  Yes, he loves books, too. He only believes in mommy opening the book, if he is too tired and ready for a nap. Other times mommy has to let him read to her.

He can call mama, dad, J, and of course car. So whenever he reads, everything is car car car car car  car  car car, then opens the next page and he repeats the same thing. It is hilarious, just listening to him, and he just sits there with that smile on his face as if he has just mastered it all.

Oh Eli…

He loves food. He will grab food from Julian’s plate, fingers, and take off running to eat, leaving his  big brother crying “ that’s mine, Eli..” See Julian can sit on the table for what seems to be a whole hour just trying to eat and it must drive Eli crazy. I can see him just reaching for that plate, saying , give that to me… let me help you out for Pete’s sake so you can go on do something else :)

They wrestle, they make each other cry, and we constantly have to remind Julian that this is a baby, who by the way is soo strong, and seems to be a bit capable of defending himself from his big brother. I mean what can i say, boys will always be boys.

With everything, one this is for sure there is soo much love between them. They miss each other a lot. I can see Eli making mini trips to the door, when Julian is out, and when he comes back they just run to each other and wrestle to the ground. Julian always kisses his little brother and then they stand up and try to take something from each other.  Julian always notices when Eli is not around and always check up on him to make sure he is ok. I love that. I pray that they keep this up to adulthood.

I understand they will hate each other at some point, but i hope with the love between them, they will work it out all the time.

As for now, both my little men give me so much love and kisses, ain’t nothing out there can top that! Yeah their dad of course, but hey… They love me to pieces. I feel like the luckiest woman in the whole world.

Have a great week!
