I would not want to be the mom in this situation,  imagine having to give birth 2,000 ft in the sky! Mmmh, no epidural,  no hospital bed, no hospital staff etc But There was a Doctor on board, what a relief!  On another note, hope some people won’t get any ideas either – on how to get free flights, mmh, lol

AFP/File – A baby boy who made a surprise arrival on board an AirAsia flight this week will be given free flights …

Fri Oct 23, 3:49 am ET

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) – A baby boy who made a surprise arrival on board an AirAsia flight this week will be given free flights for life with the budget carrier, as will his mother, the airline said Friday.

AirAsia said 31-year-old passenger Liew Siaw Hsia went into labour on Wednesday’s flight from the northern island of Penang to Kuching on Borneo island.

The aircraft made an emergency diversion to the Malaysian capital but the baby arrived just before landing, delivered by a doctor who was on board and who was assisted by the airline’s flight attendants.

“The baby was safely delivered when flight AK 6506 was approaching Kuala Lumpur for landing at 2,000 feet,” the airline said in a statement, adding that  mother and baby were taken to a nearby hospital following touchdown.

“To celebrate this momentous occasion, we decided to present both mother and child with free flights for life,” said AirAsia’s director of operations Moses Devanayagam after visiting them in hospital.

When you choose to breastfeed your allergic child you have to give up all the foods your child is allergic to, and yes this is not easy, but you have to do it anyway for the sake of your baby.  There are tons of benefits of breastfeeding your child vs fomula feeding, and for me it was the right choice.  I breastfed Julian for 25 months We started off with 6 foods that he was allergic  to, and we are now down to 4 which is great.

Julian is 3 years old now, as heathy as he can be,  and we  have Eli 4 1/2 months old who has shown signs of food allergies as well. I know for sure, Eli  can’t have dairy and fish, the rest of the foods that Julian is allergic to, i chose to keep them  from my diet till we get  him tested say around 6-7 months. His Dr told me he has to be exposed and get a reaction before they could test him – Meaning he has to eat some of those foods and react.

So, for the breastfeeding mom, who loves a particular food, you may have to give that up for the sake of your baby  and just try  substituting that instead.  This Sunday,  I watched my husband make the African Chai Tea ( Tea with Cream/Milk plus fresh ginger ) mmmmh Quite a delight, especially for the cold weather!  I can drink a whole pot of  that chai, but i can’t have that right now because it will make Eli sick. My substitute – black tea with fresh ginger,  and warms me still. :)

So, for you it may not be that chai tea, it may be that cheesecake, peanut butter sandwich,  omelet,  or pecan pie etc  You too can live without it -  Your baby wasn’t given that choice, but he or she is living with it.

Bless Your Enemies – Joel Osteen

Print

You all know this is one of my favorite pastors and i like his teachings a lot. So This is part of his Bless your enemies thought of the day. I wish i had read this in the morning.  I know several people out there can relate to the co-worker portion. Have you just ever worked with someone that at times you just bite your tongue and hope the day is over? So Hope you get the message below from Joe. Stay blessed!

Here’s what Joe wrote

“If somebody is trying to make you look bad by spreading rumors and telling lies, really, they have done you a favor. What they mean for your harm, God is going to use to promote you. I know this to be true because we have never tried to answer our critics. The more they talk, the more God promotes us. The more they talk, the higher we go.

Maybe at the office somebody is trying to make you look bad, talking behind your back, taking things out of context. It’s very tempting to be critical back and think, “Two can play this game. They said this about me. Well, let me tell you what I know about them.” No, don’t sink down to their level. Don’t let their poison cloud your heart. Learn to bless your enemies.

When we know that God is our vindicator and rewards us when we don’t take matters into our own hands, that takes all the pressure off. We don’t have to try to pay people back and get involved in battles that don’t really matter and set the record straight. Let God fight your battles for you. If you will stay on the high road, God will take what others mean for harm, and He will use it to your advantage.

When we learn to bless our enemies and pray for those who persecute us, we keep our heart free from strife and give God more room to bless us, promote us, and speak to us more.

Remember, don’t become weary in doing good. At the proper time, you’ll reap a harvest if you don’t give up. That means, keep doing good to others whenever you’re persecuted. Keep doing the right thing, even when the wrong thing is happening. Keep a good attitude. Keep praying for those who keep talking about you. Before long, you’ll see God’s blessings in greater ways, and what might have seemed like a stumbling block to you, God will use as stepping stone to thrust you higher.”

“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:17-21

Angela Montez of Indianapolis was at work and a man  came in with a gun trying to rob the place.  In the moment of panic, of all the things she could have done, scream, give up or God knows what – she decided to pray. She  prayed for the gunman, and oh boy,  don’t  you ever take God for granted! The man took a knee  as well and prayed with Angela for a good 10 minutes. Then they sat down and talked for another 30 min.

Angela found out the guy was just a desperate dad, trying to make  another dollar to take care of his boy.  He left with $20, and was later arrested. The good news, no one was hurt and he handed Angela the last bullet from the gun!

The power of prayer!

I know am not the only one worried sick every time you hear a co-worker has the swine flu! The question left  unaswered is,  Does it mean i will get it too?

I have followed Dr. Oz on How to prevent Swine Flu… tips to the T. I am loading my family on Vitamin D, drinking lots of water, washing hands like crazy…Every time i touch a door handle, i wash my hands or use my good ol’  sanitizer. So with all the prevention, how can i avoid getting  this swine flu from someone else? I mean i may not be able to stay 6ft away all the time!

So, it may not kill me, but still i don’t want to expose it to my baby, man i can’t wait till this swine flu outbreak clears!

Dr Oz on signs of swine flu

The symptoms of swine flu are similar to the symptoms of other seasonal types of influenza virus, including:

  • Runny nose
  • Sore throat
  • Body aches
  • Headache
  • Chills
  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Sometimes, pneumonia or respiratory failure
  • Worsening of existing physical conditions

People with swine flu might be slightly more likely to experience the gastrointestinal symptoms (vomiting, etc.) than people with the usual forms of the flu.

LONDON, England (CNN) — A $5 million prize to reward good leadership in Africa was dramatically awarded Monday to … nobody.
Businessman Mo Ibrahim talks about the prize at a news conference in London, England, on Monday.

Wow… Now that would have been a prize!!!

I can’t believe that the board could not find not one African leader worth the prize!

According to CNN, Mo Ibrahim, is  a Sudanese-born businessman who made a fortune in the cell phone industry, he  established the foundation bearing his name in 2006.  According to Ibrahim, when the foundation began awarding the prize, he said at the time “that there may be years when no winner is chosen, and this is such a year.”
There is a lot of money to be made in Africa’s cell phone industry… Seriously! I bet Ibrahim is a billionaire.  Most people don’t have land lines and  so for most who now own cell phones, they just buy phone cards  ( which are riduculosly prized) to use.  One can spend $100 or even more a day on phone cards… very easily.  For most, text messaging is the way to communicate.  The last time i was in Tanzania i spent $500 on phone cards, and i was only there for a month. On the more positive note though,  it is good people can own cell phones, you can talk to people in the villages anytime, day or night.. you don’t necessarily have to take a trip to see how your loved one is doing.

Connecticut's Jasper Howard (6) was killed early Sunday morning outside of a school dance.

This just sucks!   I heard this on the news, and read on CNN as well “Cornerback Jasper Howard called his mom Saturday night after Connecticut beat Louisville, and he was given the game ball. He was thrilled. The incident happened at 12:33 a.m., shortly after a sponsored student dance on campus.  1 of 2  Just hours later, the phone rang again. This time it was UConn football coach Randy Edsall notifying her that her son had been stabbed. He was pronounced dead early Sunday.”

I have no idea what would have generated so much anger that someone can just take away another’s life like that, but it boils down to same thing that i talk about…How can we, parents,  protect our kids after sending them to school? Can you imagine getting that phone call! I pray for this family and hope they find peace and comfort during this difficult time.

He was only 20 yrs old, trying to make something for himself, what a life just cut short!  Let’s pray for our children,  raise them to be better men, getting them to live right.  Hope  Jasper’s killer will be brought to justice, soon.

One of my friend’s sister spent the weekend with us and it was nice to have her around. The boys loved her a lot. Eli  had a high fever on Friday morning, lucky enough Tylenol took care of it. It was more from the vaccinations than an infection.  He has been very fussy ever since though. He wakes up in the middle of the night and cry  soo loud, call it bloody murder i swear.  This morning he did same thing, but he  has been  ok for the rest of the day.  I am not sure if is the teething pain, or what’s up with him. Babies. Sometimes you just don’t know.

My friend’s sister, Mary, and i went to church this morning. It was really good. I love our church – Sheffield family life Center. There is a sense of inner peace and happiness that i feel everytime  after i attend Sunday service. I just made a mental note today, and a great reminder from our pastor  to take our children to church. He explained even at old age, they will remember that time spent in church with their family, and eventually may go back to church themselves. We are in a generation where less and less people really put God first in their every day life, and many have other things to do on Sundays,  rather than going to church.

I sometimes  am guilty of missing church… i have so many excuses … Some days it is because  the baby kept me up all night, but  then i will turn around and go to work on weekdays… other times, the weather is bad, but i will still manage to go to work and the list is endless…excuses and excuses!!!  I vow to be better though, seriously, I have to be able to set a good example for my children,  so they can get to know and love God, while growing up.

The Chiefs finally won their first game, Yaaay!!! I have been a chiefs  fan for a very long time, even after having  their worst games, i still tune in to watch them play. Bowe plays really well, but today’s game was just not his best. Who wasn’t mad at Bowe today when that Touchdown, ended up being a miss! When every possible catch was a miss… In the end they did bring it home, so we get to let him off the hook. Go Chiefs!  I bet the coach is relieved too, lol.

What a great way to start the week, thanks Chiefs! and also, About time!

So i took Eli for his 4 month checkup today. Children Mercy is having a checking point on the hall way, so people  who either have the flu symptoms or want to protect themselves grab the face masks to put on  before going into the waiting room.

I stopped and asked that receptionist if  the well babies were in the same room as the sick patients and she stated yes. I looked at Eli and thought to myself  i wish you luck baby, hope you won’t bring home  the flu.  We went into the room and it was almost full, children coughing some just playing around, and when I heard an adult cough really bad , i headed over to the dispenser on the wall  and grabbed  2 masks. I put one on and tried to fit another on Eli.  The one for Eli, lets say.. try putting a mask on a teething child, he just chewed on it. So i took it off and kept mine on.

What i didn’t expect is everyone else in the room looking at me as if i was  the one sick. The nurse that checked us in asked me whether i was coughing and i said no, am just trying to take precaution.

The wait for us to see our Dr was a full  0ne and half hours. So if there was anyone in the room with the swine flu, that may be bad news for my baby. I understand our Dr was probably caring for other sick children, but i have to admit, i hated waiting today, especially knowing that we weren’t sick, just going for our immunizations.

Mask part II- I still had it on our way to the elevators…  I run into  other parents wantiong a ride down, they stayed out , and Eli and I rode alone. I was smiling inside :) Who really wants to share elevators in a hospital at this time of the year.  So, the next time we walk in a hospital, for as long as we haven’t had that swine flu vaccine yet, me and my family shall wear those masks!

When we reached home, i undressed Eli, gave him a bath right away, threw his clothes and his blankies into the washer. I gave him his Trivisol for the Vitamin D  boost and some Tylenol since he got the same group  of vaccines as Eli’s 2 Month Checkup and Immunizations

Swine flu, this too shall pass!
