Overall, Saturday was a good day for us. Julian and his dad went for a haircut in the morning then i went for a relaxer in the afteroon.Julian got a new book, I wish that i had Duck feet, By Dr Seuss. He loved this book so much that anytime i sat on the rocking chair he brings it and says “read it, pleeeaase” I love Dr Seuss books. The words are so simple, and have a way to capture kids attention. I mean his dad actually enjoys reading out loud to the boys as well.
With Eli we started reading to him from first week at home. Julian i started later, and only after some encouragement from my mommy friend Allysha.Allysha and i had our first kids same year. She had a little girl and i had a boy. I had given up trying to read to Julian. I remember writing to Allysha saying that I could never get Julian to concentrate, or sit still while i read a whole book, so what did i do, i just stopped reading completely. She told me, to start reading again, and basically even when it appears like they are not interested.. keep on reading, there will come a time when this will be a routine and they will sit and listen.
She was right. We would read on the table, we would read on the floor, we would read on the bed, and i had more success when i was nursing him. He would be eating, then i would read an entire book.As he got older, he started to have favorite books. I would notice if i read a certain book, he would drop everything and come sit and listen. We went through a stage he would make you read him more than one book before he went to bed. Now any Dr Seuss book does the trick.
Back to our Saturday… My husband and i made dinner together. I figured out why Julian had been waking up soo early too during the week. He was going to bed still hungry. His dad said he was giving him dinner, some days he would eat, some days wouldn’t so he would just put him to bed…Yeah, i know. I shook my head too. So, last night this kid ate so much i thought he was going to have a tummy ache. He slept from 7pm to 7am. My husband goes, i guess mothers know their kids.. ya ya Shil, as long you get him to eat.
For our date night, we watched a chick flick this time…mmmh, i picked it, lol. New in town with Renee Zellweger and Harry Connick, it was a cute comedy/romance. My husband wanted to watch State of play, but he didn’t find it yesterday, so he will try to get that for labor day.
Eli is feeling much better as well, i think he started teething. He has been drooling a lot, and has discovered there is more to his hands, lol…his fingers fit in his mouth
He has been chewing on his index finger a lot, so then teething fun has just started. I took away Julian’s computer Friday night, since i wanted us to have more playtime without distraction…yes it wasn’t fun Saturday morning. He must have woken our neighbors. He cried like hell for that computer, but i didn’t give it to him. I am glad i did , he got to play with his other toys more, and was playing with Eli as well. He got Eli to do a mini pushup today, i swear that baby was almost pushing himself forward to follow Julian, lol. Julian loved watching him try to lift his head up, at some point he decided to help him up.He would kiss him for trying and tell him ” good job, try again, ha ha.. you did it! ” I mean, for a mom watching that , you just have to love that. Some mommies do experience the sibling rivarly from the get go, but so far We have seen nothing but love from Julian towards his little brother, and for that am thankful.
I love my boys. They are both tucked in and asleep right now. We are listening to their classical music, not bad either. Daddy is on his computer editing a video, while i am on the couch and adding to my blog.
Today was a great day for me. I got to spend the whole day with my boys. Fed them, cleaned them up, played with them, read to them, and put them to bed. I noticed Julian has started to read some familiar words as we read his books, so i am excited about the possibility of him reading all by himself. I am hoping we can start working on him writing by hand. He can type most of this words on the computer on microsoft word, but can’t quite write them on paper yet…i know… the techie world people send emails, or type messages, but hardly get them to use an ink pen and paper. Honestly, i feel like my handwriting has become a Dr’s signature. Have you ever looked at some words you wrote on paper and wonder what in the world was that, like you can’t read your own handwriting? yes… i am going to blame it on my computer. ha ha.
Try to take time in your day and spend about 10-15 min reading a book out loud to your child if you can. Even when you think they are not listening, keep reading it anyway. You will be giving them a quick start in life. Remember knowledge is power, so instill as much as you can into those young minds.
Have a happy labor day!
