Julian and Daddy..

Print

As children grow up they need their parent’s attention even more.  I can remember trips that we used to take with our dad as kids. They were the best childhood memories that i can remember. He used to take us to the zoo, or shopping into town… back then it was a pretty big deal for us. Our dad was always busy and travelled a lot and When we saw him it was usually brief. Some weekends he would be home, but mostly sleeping in coz of fatigue. So i look at Julian and Eli and think how lucky they are …to be able to have their dad around and to spend time with him.

My husband has always been pretty good at spending time with Julian. He taught him how to play soccer  and i have to admit he  is getting to be pretty good at it.  They have days that they just go play at the park together sans Eli and I and other times taking little trips around town together.

Today was even special, they got to do something new together. They went to the barber shop and got a hair cut. I used to cut Julian’s hair, and also only if daddy was holding him for me.  Now that he is getting older and stronger i couldn’t do it anymore, plus all that screaming and twisting was not worth it. We let his hair grow.  Today  his dad suggested  just trying to go to  the barber shop. I was in the kitchen laughing, saying goodluck and also thankful that i wasn’t the one taking him… i was imagining if he started to scream how embarrassing it would look plus, what would be going through the poor barber’s mind… :(

It was 12:45PM i was  packing my things , getting ready for work and who but Julian comes running in the house calling mama…hmmm… he didn’t come in crying, this was good. Wooow he looked handsome!  He actually had a grownup haircut, oh my goodness. Daddy said he didn’t even flinch, he sat there on the barber’s chair and enjoyed it!

Now, they will be making this trips often. I guess since it was a stranger cutting his hair , he must have behaved! who knew… plus it was pretty affordable, they went to the beauty school, and they did a pretty dang good job.

So calling out for  all the fathers and mothers out there , to just take some time to spend with your kids…every little time spent counts.

Memories are Treasures!

Gassy Baby?

Print

How do you know your baby has gas? Very easy, they cry a lot and you will notice them twisting like their tummy hurt, also the tummy tend to be hard,  and also will be making faces as if they are in pain.

Causes.. Really just like adults  babies do get gas, and it is normal.. now if they are really uncomfortable  and it is keeping them up, then there are things you can do to help. if you are nursing you may notice  it more   after eating certain foods.  Some folks swear  they see this often after eating anything  dairy, beans, cabbage, broccoli, or spicy foods … but i won’t recommend eliminating all these from your diet  yet.  You will need to figure out which ones are  worse as far as causing gas, then  go from there.

Remedy: First you can start by rubbing their tummy in circular motion, this can help out a bit but what really has worked for us is  Gripe water. Gripe water is really good for gassy and that colicky child. The first 2 weeks this was a lifesavor for us. Eli was so gassy. I ate beans one day and man, yes that was it for me. He was twisting crying non-stop then i remembered i had some Gripe water… just remember if you open the bottle you have to refrigerate. We bought our gripe water from Target.  Also Mylicom drops work, and if you have figured out what the culprits are, you can actually use the drops on the baby after every feeding, if you don’t want to give up your foods.  With Gripe water there is a limit  you can only use 6x /day.

All in all, Gas can be  painful and uncomfortable for babies, and when they don’t get the relief  they need , boy oh boy, forget about sleeping that night.  My suggestion if you are expecting soon. Just buy yourself a bottle of Gripe water or Mylicom drops and stash it away somewhere, because bottle feeding or breast feeding there will come a time you would need it.

Hey, enjoy parenthood!
